The ICON PC User Group was formed in 1990 by six individuals wishing to learn more about computers and has been holding meetings ever since. Most of the original six are still active members in the group. Prior to starting the user group, they met at their homes where they taught each other based on a person's specialty with computers. Those meetings led to their seeking a location so that more people could have this learning advantage. The Brentwood Public Library provided, and continues to provide, a meeting space where the community can become involved in our computer group.

Our goals are to:

  • Educate computer users to get the most from their investment, using meetings, presentations, workshops, a newsletter and an online forum.
  • Attract software, hardware and computer businesses, to show their products and services at our meetings, by increasing our membership size.

ICON remains current by regularly upgrading its computer equipment so it can demonstrate and teach about the latest products and information. “ICON” is an acronym from the original name of the group: the IBM/COMPATIBLE USERS OF NEW YORK. ICON has grown from the original 6 members to over 135 members today, residing all over Long Island, from Great Neck to Hampton Bays.

For only $30 per year for you and up to three family members residing at the same address, all members can get help running their computer(s) & adding new hardware, obtain discounts on purchases from select sources, and can attend some of Long Island's most informative meetings presented by our members or company representatives demoing their products. It is all designed to give our members the information required to best operate their computers and to make the best decisions when buying hardware or software. Most meetings have door prizes for members - an added attraction for joining and attending meetings.

MEETINGS: COME ON DOWN!! EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND MONTHLY MEETINGS OF LONG ISLAND’S LARGEST COMPUTER CLUB! The ICON PC User Group meets at the Brentwood Public Library, located on the southwest corner of Second Avenue and Fourth Street in Brentwood, Long Island, New York (you can view a map and directions HERE). The meetings are held on the first Friday of each month, from 6:30 PM until 8:45PM (dates may be rescheduled or cancelled to accommodate a holiday weekend or inclement weather.) Our monthly meetings cover a wide range of topics, often presented by special guest speakers from well-known companies and organizations. Meetings usually also include a question and answer session where we do our best to find answers to those problems plaguing the computers of our members and guests.

So... come to a meeting and check it out yourself. Nobody will chase you away because you're not a member. You're bound to learn something at any of our monthly presentations, and you can find answers to any questions you might bring with you.

We Promise: there won't be any high-pressure salesmanship to join. No salesmanship whatsoever - guaranteed.

MEMBERSHIP: Although you do not have to be a member to attend meetings, membership does have its benefits:

  • Participation in monthly members-only door prize drawings.
  • Free members-only monthly workshops held on the third Friday of each month.
  • Participation in the ICON PC User Group Yahoo! Forum where members help members with information and problem-solving.
  • Free members-only items at meetings with special subjects, such as our annual free Fabulous Freeware CD. Special discounts also may be offered to members for items featured at meetings. And, as a new member, ICON has one or more little gifts for you as a token of appreciation for joining.

ICON EMAIL LIST: You do not have to join ICON to receive information about our meetings. We will be happy to add you to our emailing list to inform you about the topics of upcoming meetings and events. ICON’s email list is used only by ICON. All email addresses are kept confidential.
